ATTENDANCE AT SPORTS EVENTS

TIME SPENT AT SPORTS EVENTS

The 1997 Time Use Survey found that, on the day in respect of which the survey was conducted, 1.3% of the Australian population aged 15 years and over attended a sports event. The Time Use Survey looks at the number of persons participating in activities on a single day, and this explains why the rate is very much lower than the participation rates presented earlier in this chapter for attendance during a 12-month period. However, the persons who attended sports events on the survey reference day spent, on average, 2 hours 30 minutes on this activity. On average, males spent more time at sport events than females ( 2 hours 44 minutes compared with 2 hours 13 minutes).
