MAIZE Total maize production in Australia in 2010-11 was 357 thousand tonnes covering an area of 62 thousand hectares. The historical high for production was in 2001-02 at 454 thousand tonnes, but for area it was in 1923-24 at 172 thousand hectares. Since 1923-24 the area under cultivation for maize has steadily declined while production increased notably from the early 1980s. , Australia.gif) Footnote(s): Only Australian total available in graph form.
