MEAT CATTLE In 2010-11, the total number of meat cattle in Australia was 26 million head, up from 24 million in 2009-10. Historically, meat cattle numbers peaked at 29.3 million in 1976. All states experienced a similar pattern to the Australian total, except Queensland, where total meat cattle numbers peaked at 12.4 million in 2010-11.
