NAME OF ORGANISATION The survey has been conducted twice, in respect of 1993-94 and 1996-97. Its scope was all employing management units. Information is produced showing the level of sponsorship and number of sponsors broken down by field of sponsorship, and size and industry of sponsoring businesses. Comparisons are made between sponsoring and non-sponsoring businesses. The purpose of the survey is to gather information on sponsorship by businesses which could be used to: The main objectives of the survey are to determine: The main users of the information was the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (DOCITA) and the Recreation and Sport Industry Statistics Group (RSISG) which jointly funded the survey. The source of the survey's coverage was the ABS Business Register. The survey covered all business units except: DATA DETAIL Conceptual framework Not applicable. Main outputs Value of sponsorships by businesses; numbers of sponsoring businesses, fields of activity sponsored; benefits received from sponsorship; whether sponsored before; whether intend to sponsor in future; comparisons of economic characteristics of sponsors with economic characteristics of non-sponsors. Frequency comments The latest cycle is the second for this collection. It comes 3 years after the initial cycle. No further cycles are expected. This was an ad hoc survey. Data were first collected for 1993-94 financial year (arts sponsorship only). Data were next collected for the 1996-97 financial year (arts and sport sponsorship).
