OVERVIEW
The Wool Receivals, Purchases and Sales survey (WOO) is a quarterly survey which collects information on wool receivals, purchases, sales, interstate movements and stocks. More specifically within these categories, providers provide information on the number of bales, net weight and value of bales. Estimates are published quarterly by state/territory and Australia for wool receivals by wool brokers and dealers.
Some time series (seasonally adjusted and trend series) are produced for the wool receivals category and made available on the ABS website.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the Wool Receivals and Purchases Survey is to provide a measure of the wool receivals, purchases, sales and stocks by registered brokers and dealers in Australia each quarter. The ABS uses the estimates in the compilation of National Accounts and as input to the calculation of the Value of Agricultural Commodities Produced (VACP). External users of the data include the Australian Wool Forecasting Committee, the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES), state agricultural departments and other key industry bodies such as the Australian Wool Testing Authority (AWTA) Limited, who monitor wool receivals, purchases, sales and stocks to formulate policies and create forecasts of future industry activity.

Prior to the September quarter of 1998 this collection was a monthly collection.
COLLECTION HISTORY
This collection was included in the first issue of Livestock Products, Australia (ABS cat. no. 7215.0) in March 1981. Prior to this it was published as a separate bulletin in Wool, Australia 1979-80 (ABS cat. no. 7212.0). The collection was significantly revised in 1994 to address data quality concerns. This resulted in a single form being used to collect both brokers and dealers data.
Up until June 1998, data was collected monthly. After this time, data was collected quarterly.
