OVERVIEW
Queensland has experienced rapid population growth during the 1980s and 1990s. Much of this growth has been due to high net interstate migration rates. Apart from predicting the scale of net interstate migration flows, the Queensland Government has an interest in identifying, measuring and dealing with the impacts of such movement, particularly in coastal communities and South East Queensland.
Understanding the main reasons that people choose the suburbs, types of dwelling and tenancy that they do, will allow better planning to meet the housing and service needs of the population.
PURPOSE
The survey is intended to identify characteristics of people moving to Queensland and within Queensland, and the factors influencing their movements. The survey information will be used for the development of departmental policies, research issues, decision making, service evaluation, and future planning.
Impacts of such movement: These impacts include population growth , demand on services and facilities, effect on the residential property market, business environment and labour force.
SCOPE
All persons aged 18+ who are usual residents of private dwellings (i.e. excludes visitors)
