There were about 4,430 agricultural establishments recorded in Tasmania at 30 June 2000.
Beef cattle farming was the most common farming activity with approximately one quarter of farms in Tasmania mainly engaged in running beef cattle.
Dairy cattle farming and sheep farming were the next most common activities with 33% of farms mainly engaged in one of these types of operations.
