In 1999-2000, the gross value of livestock slaughterings and other disposals increased by 25% to $154m, mainly due to a 33% increase in the gross value of cattle and calf slaughterings. This increase was, in turn, mainly driven by a 27% increase in the gross unit value of cattle and calf slaughterings (up from $316 per head in 1998-99 to $399 per head in 1999-2000).
