ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: POPULATION COMPONENT DATA FOR THE PERIOD JUNE 2010 TO JUNE 2011

Since the release of preliminary rebased population estimates on 20 June 2012, the ABS has not revised the population components of births, deaths or net overseas migration and will not do so until final rebasing is completed in June 2013. Outside of the 5-yearly rebasing cycle, revisions have usually been applied in the March and September releases.

As outlined in the feature article Preliminary Rebasing of Australia's Population Estimates using the 2011 Census of Population and Housing, the intercensal error that was apportioned and applied across the intercensal period, in the estimates that were released on 20 June 2012, was calculated using the preliminary estimates of the components for the quarters between June 2010 to June 2011. A revision to these components would therefore affect the consistency of the published ERP series.

As a result, the revised components have also not been included in the publication tables but have instead been provided in this supplementary feature article. This article will also be included in the 28 March 2013 releases of this publication. Final rebased population estimates will be released on 20 June 2013, at which point all components will be revised and incorporated on the regular basis.
