MEDIA RELEASE
National launch of CensusAtSchool this THURSDAY A major initiative in online education - CensusAtSchool - will be launched at the Melbourne Museum on Thursday at 10.30am. The CensusAtSchool program, which will involve students from Years 5 to 12, is free, voluntary and open to all Australian schools. As its name implies, it basically involves students from around the country taking part in their own census. CensusAtSchool has been organised by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in cooperation with state and federal education authorities and is designed to show that the study of statistics can be fun as well as educational. No individual will be able to be identified in the program and the strictest privacy measures and Internet security will be in place. CensusAtSchool will be officially launched at the museum by the federal Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Chris Pearce. The Australian Statistician Dennis Trewin will also speak. Media personality and comedian Adam Spencer, who has a First Class Honours degree in Pure Mathematics, will be the keynote speaker. More information can be obtained from the ABS website at www.abs.gov.au. Click on the link to CensusAtSchool. Details:
