VICTORIA

  • From June 2006 to June 2016, the ten SA2s with the largest population increases in Victoria were all within Greater Melbourne. The outer western SA2 of Tarneit had the largest growth in terms of absolute numbers, increasing by 28,800 people. Large growth also occurred in the inner-city SA2 of Melbourne (26,200), Cranbourne East (22,600) in the outer south-east, and Truganina (21,800) in the outer west.
  • Greater Melbourne also contained the ten fastest-growing SA2s in Victoria. Doreen in Melbourne's outer north, and Truganina, were the fastest-growing (that is they had the strongest growth rates) between 2006 and 2016 (both 700%), followed by Cranbourne East (530%).
  • Of the SA2s outside of Greater Melbourne, those with the largest growth were Torquay and Ocean Grove - Barwon Heads (both 7,300) on the Bellarine Peninsula near Geelong. The SA2s with the fastest growth were Bannockburn (82%) near Geelong, and Alfredton (76%), a suburb of Ballarat.
