Please see the AusStats SuperTABLE help for more information. EXPLANATORY NOTES INTRODUCTION This SuperTABLE cube contains selected data from the 1999 Motor Vehicle Census. The 1999 Motor Vehicle Census was conducted at 31 October 1999. SCOPE AND COVERAGE Motor vehicle registration statistics are derived from data provided by State and Territory motor vehicle registration authorities. The statistics reflect information recorded in registration documents and, where possible, use the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to decode the information presented here. The scope of the statistics in this SuperTABLE cube includes - passenger vehicles and motorcycles, including those with diplomatic and consular plates and State and Commonwealth owned vehicles excludes - vehicles belonging to the defence forces, recreation vehicles such as trail bikes and sand dune buggies (in those States where registration is required), trucks of all kinds, unpowered vehicles such as caravans and trailers, trailed plant and equipment. DATA CONTENT This SuperTABLE cube allows tables to be built using these fields: Make - includes hierarchic Make, Model, Submodel classification State of Registration - the State and Territories included are indicated in the title of this SuperTABLE cube Vehicle Type - passenger vehicles and motorcycles Postcode - the postcode of the address of the registered vehicle owner. GLOSSARY Motorcycles - includes 2 and 3 wheeled mopeds, scooters, motor tricycles and motor cycles with side cars. Motor vehicle registration - includes the registrations of motor vehicles as recorded by the motor vehicle registration authorities in the relevant State or Territory at the time of the census. Passenger vehicles - includes sedans, station wagons, four-wheel drive passenger vehicles and forward control passenger vehicles with up to nine seats (including the driver's seat). VIN - the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) uniquely identifies each vehicle. Embedded in the number are coded details of make and model together with other relevant information about the vehicle. The VIN is collected by the motor vehicle registration authorities at the time of registration. |
