FERTILISER USAGE
In 2012-13:
- Fertiliser was applied to 57.8 million hectares of agricultural land in Australia, an increase of 24% in agricultural land fertilised compared to 2011-12.
- The most prevalent types of manufactured fertiliser used by agricultural businesses were urea (1.1 million tonnes used) and ammonium phosphates (892,000 tonnes used).
- Urea was reported as being used by approximately 31% of all agricultural businesses fertilising, whilst ammonium phosphates were each reported as being used by approximately 28% of businesses fertilising.
- Animal manure was used by approximately 8% of agricultural businesses who reported fertiliser use. In total around 1.2 million tonnes of animal manure was applied in 2012-13, this was a fall of approximately 44% from 2011-12.
