MEDIA RELEASE
2001 Queensland Year Book The 2001 edition of the Queensland Yearbook, published in this Centenary of Federation year, takes a comprehensive look at the State's economic and social conditions, by drawing on information from ABS and other key sources. The Year Book was released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). A must for those who want topical and relevant facts at their fingertips, the reference brings together vital information from a wide variety of sources. Extensive use of tables, charts and maps helps the facts and figures come alive in this beautifully presented, easy-to-use reference. It is bound in a hard cover coffee-table style, featuring a photograph of the Queen Street Mall taken in 1896, before Federation. The contents represent a detailed statistical review of important aspects of life in Queensland, including its government, industry, environment and lifestyle. It also provides a fascinating account of life in Queensland in 1861. The Regional Director of ABS in Queensland, Mr Brian Doyle, said the ABS depended on the continued cooperation of individuals, businesses, government and other organisations in providing the information on which ABS based its statistical output. There was no better example of the importance of this relationship than the content of 2001 Year Book Queensland. Media will find the publication a good source of stories and information. Where further information is needed, ABS can supply figures from the original surveys on request. Copies of the 2001 Queensland Year Book (cat. no. 1301.3) are available from the ABS Bookshop, 18th Floor, 313 Adelaide Street, Brisbane, telephone (07) 3222 6350.
