Presents detailed results on Australia's health literacy, based on estimates from the Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey (ALLS) 2006 (see Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey, Summary Results, Australia, 2006 cat. no. 4228.0). In ALLS, health literacy was derived as a by-product of the objectively assessed prose and document literacy, numeracy and problem-solving domains. The Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey collected information on: literacy skills; general demographic characteristics; linguistic information; parental information; labour force activities; literacy and numeracy practices; participation in education and training; social capital and well being; information and communications technology; and household composition and income. The publication will provide an overview of the relationships between health literacy skills and selected characteristics for different population groups and over time.
