A new ABS socio-economic profile of our state To assist South Australians know more about our State, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has today released a new compendium publication South Australia: A Statistical Profile 2001 (ABS Catalogue No 1368.4). The South Australian Regional Director for the ABS, Mr Ian Crettenden, said the new profile presented the state from a variety of perspectives; its social environment, education, labour force, primary industry activity, manufacturing, mining, commerce and trade, aquaculture and finance. "Often people need quick access to a broad range of information about South Australia, ranging from its history, population, and economy to its cultural life and contribution to the national picture, " he said. "This new compendium provides a diverse range of information all in the one document. It is an invaluable resource for all decision makers and a must for any personal reference collection as it meets the information needs of both specialist and general readers alike. "In this first edition there is a special chapter on Information Technology which highlights the use of computers and the Internet by private households and farm holders in South Australia. There is also an overview which presents South Australia's contribution to the national socio-economic fabric and the a summary of the main points of the publication."
