NOTES
ESTIMATED RESIDENT POPULATION STATUS ERP Data for 30 September 2001 to 30 June 2006 are final and based on the 2006 Census of Population and Housing. Data from September quarter 2006 to December quarter 2008 have been revised and data from March quarter 2009 onwards are preliminary. Revisions to estimated resident population (ERP) will now occur six-monthly, using more up-to-date Net Overseas Migration (NOM) data. For further information see paragraph 7 of the Explanatory Notes. Due to the collection and estimation methods applied to produce preliminary statistics, users should exercise caution when analysing and interpreting the most recent annual and quarterly estimates for all components of the ERP, particularly when making time series comparisons. POPULATION BY AGE AND SEX Spreadsheets released with this publication on the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) website now include population estimates by age and sex, and other associated data which have previously been published in Population by Age and Sex, Australian States and Territories (cat. no. 3201.0). As a result, the production of Population by Age and Sex, Australian States and Territories (cat. no. 3201.0) will cease following the release of June quarter 2010 data (released 21 December 2010). AUSTRALIA'S RECENT TEMPORARY MIGRANTS In recent years there has been substantial growth in temporary visa holders arriving and departing Australia. This publication includes an article focusing on their characteristics and contribution to net overseas migration and hence the Australian population. UPCOMING RELEASES Overseas Arrivals and Departures, Australia, Nov 2010 (cat. no. 3401.0) - released 12 January 2011. Regional Population Growth, Australia, 2009-10 (cat. no. 3218.0) - released 31 March 2011.
