FORMATION OF ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER DEMOGRAPHIC STATISTICS EXPERT ADVISORY GROUP
In response to stakeholder feedback, in December 2011 the ABS formed the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Demographic Statistics Expert Advisory Group (ATSIDSEAG). The first meeting of the Advisory Group was held on 13 December 2011 in Canberra. Representatives were invited and attended from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, Northern Territory Treasury, Department of Health and Ageing, Queensland Office of Economic and Social Research, the National Advisory Group on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Information and Data, Queensland Department of Health, University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, the Australian National University, Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, the Menzies School of Health Research, the Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research, and the WA Planning Commission. Representatives were also invited from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peak bodies, and the ABS has agreed to talk with these groups separately about if and how the groups could best contribute advice on the development of the ABS Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander demographic statistics program.
