Litchfield ahead of the field For the first time since 2006-07, Litchfield has overtaken Palmerston as the fastest growing local government area in the Northern Territory, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). In 2010, Litchfield’s population increased by 3% or 567 people, compared to 2.7% for Palmerston. Darwin’s population increased by 2.2% in 2010 to 127,532, making it the second fastest-growing capital city in Australia, only marginally behind Perth. The above population data are just a feature of many economic, social and environmental statistical online profiles updated today. This includes 16 local government areas and 65 statistical local areas in the Northern Territory as well as over 2000 regions across Australia.
Regional information is available over a five year period up to 2010, so local communities can track changes over time in the characteristics of their areas. The Google Maps interface makes finding regions a cinch. To get started, just click on the ‘National Regional Profile’ link on the ABS website, www.abs.gov.au. Media Note:
