Revised data cube
Revisions have been made to Table 20 contained in the SMVU 2000 data cube. The revisions apply to several cells for the commodity 'Not Specified'. The revised cells have an 'r' preceeding the revised number.
This EXCEL workbook contains 25 tables being data cubes of the 2000 Survey of Motor Vehicle Use (SMVU), Australia, 12 months ending 31 October 2000. The tables contain statistics on passenger vehicle, motor cycle, truck and bus use for characteristics such as distance travelled, fuel consumption, year of manufacture and area of operation.
The 2000 SMVU data presented in these data cubes have been revised since their initial release on 27 June 2001. Deficiencies in the survey population frame were identified which have been rectified. Further information on the frame deficiency and the action taken to make corrections is given in Technical Note 2: Methodological Review.
NOTES
ABOUT THIS DATA CUBE
These tables present estimates from the 2000 Survey of Motor Vehicle Use (SMVU). They contain statistics on passenger vehicle, motor cycle, truck and bus use for characteristics such as distance travelled, fuel consumption and area of operation.
The data were collected in four quarterly sample surveys conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) over the period 1 November 1999 to 31 October 2000.
CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE
The 2000 SMVU data presented in these tables have been revised since their initial release on 27 June 2001. Deficiencies in the survey population frame were identified which have been rectified. Further information on the frame deficiency and the action taken to make corrections is given in Technical Note 2: Methodological Review.
HISTORICAL COMPARISONS
The ABS will also be revising 1998 and 1999 SMVU data due to the same deficiencies in the survey population frame. Therefore, comparisons between data contained in these tables and those contained in previous SMVU publications should not be made.
Revised data for 1998 and 1999 SMVU will be published along with 2002 SMVU data in September 2003.
For 2000 and 2001 SMVU data care should be taken in drawing inferences from changes in data over these two years as movements may be subject to high relative standard errors. Therefore the resulting estimates of movements may not be considered statistically significant. There is also potential for increased volatility in the estimates due to the changes that have been implemented as a result of the methodological review.
Additional information about the reliability of the level and movement estimates is given in Technical Note 1: Data Quality.
