Areas outside of inner Hobart recorded an average total income of $47,389 in 2007-08, where as inner Hobart recorded an average total income of $46,051. West Coast ($43,377) and inner Launceston ($40,026) recorded the next highest average incomes, along with part of Kingborough in the Greater Hobart area ($39,786), rounded out the top five . Other areas to record average total incomes higher than the state average of $37,718 included part of Meander Valley ($39,329), Clarence ($39,070) and part of Burnie ($38,369). These data include income from wages and salaries, own unincorporated business, investment, and superannuation and annuities, but do not include government pensions and allowances.
