This publication is part of the Demography Working Paper series.
The current review updates one completed in 1990 which set the strategy for future work in the area of demography statistics. The current review revisited these issues and examined them from a user relevance and priority perspective. The method used a position paper prepared by the ABS which was then circulated to a wide range of agencies and organisations in all three tiers of government and elsewhere. Some 73 organisations responded with their comments. Discussions then occurred with relevant parties before ABS finalised its response. This paper outlines changes made to the ABS's strategy as a result of the review.
