TREND
- The trend estimates of the total and non-residential value of building commenced should be interpreted with caution. See data notes on page 2 of this publication.
- The trend estimate of the total value of building work commenced fell 2.1% in the June quarter 2010 to $21,198.9m. This is 30.1% higher than June 2009.
- The value of new residential building commenced rose 7.8%. The value of new house commencements rose 1.9% and new other residential commencements rose 17.1%. The value of commencements for alterations and additions to residential buildings rose by 0.2%. The value of non-residential building commenced fell 10.9%.
Value of Work Commenced in Volume Terms, Trend

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED
- In seasonally adjusted terms, the estimate of the total value of building work commenced in the June quarter rose 0.7% following a fall of 10.5% in March 2010.
- Commencements of new residential buildings rose 6.5% to $10,980.3m. New house commencements fell 2.7%, to $6,803.2m, and new other residential building rose 25.9% to $4,177.1m. Alterations and additions rose 1.5% to $1,638.3m. Non-residential work commenced fell 6.3%, to $8,224.4m.
