Statistical & Information Consultancies

Do you need to design a survey or questionnaire, and don't know where to start? Have you got data requiring complex statistical analysis? Our consultants have the expertise to help you clarify your objectives and plan your project effectively.

The ABS Statistical Consultancy service can be used to provide complete statistical solutions and expertise to enable informed decision making, including expert advice and customised data reports. It is available when expert statistical advice on a project is required, but the appropriate skills are not readily available within an organisation. It can also be valuable for organisations with significant levels of mathematical and statistical experience who want to discuss technical issues with an independent body. Areas of particular expertise include:

• survey and sample design - our expert team can help you meet your information requirements through survey design;
• data analysis and modelling - we can apply complex statistical techniques to either your data or ABS data;
• reviews and tender evaluations - we can review existing or proposed surveys, audits, analyses or other statistical processes;
• data management - we can assist with the organisation of your data holdings into a statistical framework; and
• statistical training - an expansive suite of training programmes is available to develop your statistical skills or alternatively, a course can be tailored to your specific needs.

The ABS Information Consultancy service can provide a wide range of ABS data tailored to meet your individual needs. Our consultants can provide reports containing tables, commentary and maps highlighting the characteristics of your target market, or customised demographic data for planning service delivery. They can also assist with the provision of data for the most recent period available or on a time series basis.

Statistical Training

To assist in developing statistical expertise, the ABS can provide training courses to your staff. Our training programs are conducted by ABS staff with expertise in designing questionnaires, analysing data and managing the survey process. Courses can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your organisation, for example using South Australia-specific information.

The ABS also provides regular seminars and information sessions which may focus on statistical developments, publications, trends or issues. Details of training courses and registration forms are on the ABS website (Select 'services we provide' and then 'ABS training'). Local Government

Local Government users of the ABS website can now access information designed to help find data and other resources of interest to Local Government.

Called 'Services We Provide to Local Government', these new information pages include:

• How to find data for Local Government Areas
• How to keep informed about ABS releases and developments; and
• Information about resources and services available to help use data.

The pages include ABS releases that contain data at Local Government Area level, and information about ABS training available to Local Government clients. 'Services We Provide to Local Government' is the latest in a series of services pages aimed at assisting ABS clients. Other 'Services We Provide' pages on the ABS website include: State/Territory Government, Small Business, and Universities.
