There were an estimated 33,581 farms recorded in Victoria at 30 June 2002.


Beef cattle farming was the most common farming activity with about 7,700 farms in Victoria mainly engaged in this activity.

Dairy cattle farming and sheep farming were the next most common activities with just under one third farms mainly engaged in one of these types of operations.
