ABS publication gives insight into NSW regions

From Sydney to the Far West, from Tweed to the Murray, Regional Statistics New South Wales 1999 gives a statistical view across the state.

The latest issue of this publication from the Australian Bureau of Statistics provides key social and economic figures for every local council area in NSW.

For comparing areas, or for quick reference, Regional Statistics New South Wales 1999 is a useful source of small area information. Also included are maps and a geographic description for each of the twelve Statistical Divisions in NSW.

  • Blacktown SLA recorded the highest number of births with 4 380 babies born in 1996-97.
  • Sydney City had the highest number (55) of hotels and motels with facilities, with Snowy River the second highest at 46.
  • Liverpool had the highest number of dwelling units approved (2 196) in 1997-98.
  • Fairfield was the area with the highest number of manufacturing locations with 942 counted.
  • Lachlan had the highest number of sheep and lambs and Muswellbrook the most horses for breeding.
  • The Moree area had the largest area under cultivation for wheat (370 377 ha) and the largest number of meat cattle.
