(a) Both the TRYM model and the TRYM database are subject to ongoing research and
development by the Commonwealth Treasury and the ABS. Starting this quarter,
some experimental industry based variables are included in the database (see
attachment for a list) although the model does not use them. These series are
being released for public comment and information. It is proposed that the range of
experimental series will be extended in future releases to incorporate series such as
wages, investment and capital stocks by industry sector. Please note that as these
series are still experimental, caution should be exercised when using them.

ABS is contemplating reducing the number of NIF series currently included



in Table 1 to Table 19 in order to focus attention on producing a smaller
number of higher quality statistical series. Initial consultation with some key
clients has indicated their main needs for research and analysis can met by
29 of the current 186 series. These are listed below.
Your comments are sought on how well this reduced number of series
would meet your uses of the Modellers' Database.
