PRODUCTIVITY
Labour productivity has moved in a similar pattern to MFP. Between 1989-90 and 2002-03 labour productivity grew at a rate of 3.1% per year. Since 2002-03 labour productivity has grown at 0.8% per year. The three major transport sub-industries of Road, Air and space, and Rail, pipelines and other transport have all displayed significant labour productivity growth (figure 11.2). There were significant rises in labour productivity for transport services and storage during the mid to late 1990s, but a fall of almost 40% since 2001-02 was due to employment levels growing significantly faster than output.
