INCOME
Private Day hospital facilities received $946.6 million in income during 2012-13, an 8.1% increase from 2011-12. Day hospital facilities received 95.0% of their total revenue as patient revenue in 2012-13, down from 95.7% in 2011-12. The proportion of total income received as patient income varied from 92.6% in Gastroenterology centres to 98.1% in Ophthalmic surgery hospitals.
The average income for the 319 Day hospital facilities in 2012-13 was $3.0 million. This varied from $1.9 million for the 34 Plastic and cosmetic surgery establishments to $4.0 million for the 64 Ophthalmic surgery hospitals.

Day hospital facilities in NSW recorded the highest proportion of total income at 32.8% in 2012-13. Income per hospital ranged from $2.5 million in Victoria to $3.6 million in Queensland, while patient income as a proportion of total income ranged from 91.4% in Victoria to 99.1% in Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory.

When income is adjusted to remove the effects of price changes over the period, the average annual increase over the five years from 2008-09 ($677 million total real income) to 2012-13 ($919 million total real income) was 9.6%.
