The chart below shows the trend series and seasonally adjusted series to August 2010.

In current prices, the trend estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.5% in August 2010 following a rise of 0.5% in July 2010 and a rise of 0.5% in June 2010.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.3% in August 2010 following a rise of 0.7% in July 2010 and a rise of 0.4% in June 2010.

The original estimate for Australian turnover fell 1.8% in August 2010. The original estimate for chains and other larger retailers fell 3.2% in August 2010 and the original estimate for smaller retailers rose 0.4% in August 2010.

TOTAL RETAIL - BY STATE

The following states and territories rose in trend terms in August 2010: New South Wales (0.7%), Victoria (0.8%), Queensland (0.4%), South Australia (0.1%). Western Australia (0.0%) and the Australian Capital Territory (0.0%) remained unchanged. Tasmania (-0.4%) and the Northern Territory (-0.1%) fell in trend terms in August 2010.

The following states and territories rose in seasonally adjusted terms in August 2010: New South Wales (0.7%), Western Australia (1.1%), the Australian Capital Territory (0.7%), Tasmania (0.2%) and South Australia (0.1%). Victoria (-0.2%), Queensland (-0.1%) and the Northern Territory (-0.5%) fell in seasonally adjusted terms in August 2010.
