This publication presents 2009 reference year statistics on the number of fetal, neonatal and total perinatal deaths classified to the World Health Organisation's International Classification of Diseases (ICD). Version 10 of the ICD has been introduced from 1999.

The series of spreadsheets associated with this publication include 2009 (preliminary), 2008 (revised) and 2007 (final) perinatal cause of death data for Australia and selected states and territories. Data are published in this release on a reference year basis by state or territory of usual residence of Australia, sex and cause of death.
