This file contains population projections, by age and sex, for the period 30 June 2006 to 30 June 2021 for Australia and the states and territories.

This SuperTABLE contains 14 alternative projection series (including the two main series, Series A and B), based on different combinations of assumptions on Indigenous fertility, paternity, life expectancy at birth, and interstate migration. The assumptions used are detailed below.

(b) Indigenous life expectancy at birth remains constant at 67.3 years for males and 73.0 years for females.
(c) Indigenous life expectancy at birth increases at the same rate as assumed life expectancy at birth for the total Australian population (as assumed in the medium mortality assumption, Population Projections, Australia, 2006 to 2101, cat. no. 3222.0), reaching 70.2 years for males and 75.2 years for females by 2021.
(d) Indigenous life expectancy at birth increases by five years, reaching 72.1 years for males and 77.8 years for females by 2021 (from 67.1 years for males and 72.8 years for females in 2006).
(e) Indigenous life expectancy at birth reaches assumed life expectancy at birth for total Australian population by 2031 (as assumed in the medium mortality assumption, Population Projections, Australia, 2006 to 2101, cat. no. 3222.0), reaching 76.7 years for males and 81.2 years for females by 2021.


ABOUT THIS DATA CUBE

This SuperTABLE contains population projections for Australia and each state and territory by 5-year age group (up to 85 years and over) and sex, for the period 2006 to 2021. Figures for 30 June 2006 are estimated resident Indigenous population based on results of the 2006 Census of Population and Housing.

Note that projections for Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory are only available by 5-year age group to 65 years and over (see paragraphs 45–46 of the Explanatory Notes for more information).
