AGGREGATE MONTHLY HOURS WORKED TREND ESTIMATES


FULL TIME

The trend estimate of aggregate monthly hours worked by full time workers generally rose from 1,148 million hours in May 2001 to 1,348 million hours in July 2008. The trend then fell to 1,307 million hours in July 2009, before rising to 1,366 million hours in March 2011, and is at a similar level, 1,365 million hours, in May 2011.

Part time

The trend estimate of aggregate monthly hours worked by part time workers generally rose from 168 million hours in May 2001 to 187 million hours in March 2003. The trend then fell to 186 million hours in August 2003 before generally rising to 238 million hours in May 2011.

TOTAL

The trend total aggregate monthly hours worked followed a similar pattern to that of full time workers. It generally rose from 1,315 million hours in May 2001 to 1,565 million hours in July 2008 before falling to 1,532 million hours in June 2009. The trend has since risen to 1,602 million hours in May 2011.
