Melbourne and regional centres chosen for second Census testing Possible changes to Census questionnaire design are to be tested this month in Melbourne and regional centres of Geelong, Bendigo and Shepparton by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) in preparation for the next Census of Population and Housing in 2001. The Census Test Co-ordinator, Judy Costanzo, said the purpose of the test is to determine the suitability of new question designs for the next Census. Census collectors will commence delivering forms on 22 November to approximately 2,500 households located in selected Melbourne suburbs and regional centres of Braybrook, St Albans East, Broadmeadows, Bundoora, Mitcham, Dandenong North, St Kilda, Frankston North, Norlane, Shepparton and Long Gully. Householders will be asked to complete the forms for the night of Wednesday 26 November. Collectors will return between 27 November and 6 December to pick up the completed forms and conduct a short personal interview. Collectors will carry official ABS identification and all information collected in the test will be treated in strict confidence. All forms will be destroyed after processing. This will be the second of a series of tests to be conducted throughout Australia over the next few years in planning for the next Census.
