The trend estimate of males employed full-time rose from 4,280,200 in July 1998 to 4,398,700 in August 2000, before dropping to 4,335,900 in July 2001. Since then, the trend estimate has generally risen to stand at 5,007,000 in July 2008.

MALES AGED 15-19 YEARS

Although fluctuating, the trend estimate of males aged 15 to 19 years employed full-time decreased from 143,500 in July 1998 to 134,700 in March 2001. Despite falls in 2001 and 2004, the trend then increased to 160,800 in April 2005 before decreasing to 153,900 in December 2006. The trend then rose to stand at 172,700 in July 2008.

MALES AGED 20 YEARS AND OVER

The trend estimate of males aged 20 years and over employed full-time rose from 4,136,800 in July 1998 to 4,254,00 in August 2000. The trend then fell to 4,194,300 in July 2001, before generally rising to 4,834,300 in July 2008.

FEMALES EMPLOYED FULL TIME

The trend estimate of females employed full-time generally rose from 2,125,500 in July 1998 to 2,271,600 in March 2001, before falling to 2,222,600 in March 2002. Since then, the trend estimate has generally risen to stand at 2,681,800 in July 2008.

FEMALES AGED 15-19 YEARS

The trend estimate of females aged 15 to 19 employed full-time generally rose from 74,000 in July 1998 to 89,200 in February 2001. The trend then fell to 76,600 in September 2002, before rising with some fluctuations to 91,300 in January 2008. The trend then fell to 84,100 in July 2008.

FEMALES AGED 20 YEARS AND OVER

The trend estimate of females aged 20 years and over employed full-time rose from 2,051,500 in July 1998 to 2,182,900 in March 2001. The trend then fell to 2,145,000 in February 2002, before generally rising to stand at 2,597,700 in July 2008.
