NSW has the highest number of sheep and lambs of any state. At 30 June 2003, the number of sheep and lambs in New South Wales was 33.7 million.

At 30 June 2003, most sheep and lambs in NSW were found in the South Eastern Statistical Division (6.6 million) followed by the Central West Statistical Division (6.2 million).
