Provides 1996 Census statistics for Local Government Areas and regions in Victoria. It is a valuable tool for both the public and private sectors in planning for the long-term future of Victoria. It provides information from the first available set of statistics from the 1996 Census. The compendium is a snapshot of Victoria's Local Government Areas, reflecting local populations in all their diversity of age, religion, education, birthplace, language, dwellings and income. It also includes interesting snapshots of the physical characteristics of Victoria's Local Government Areas, placing demographic data in its local context.

Note: This publication was produced by the Department of Infrastructure, Government of Victoria, with an agreement to sell through the ABS Bookshop. It is expected that data from future censuses will continue to be made available in 8911.2 and 8912.2.
