Domestic accommodation industry income up 20% Australia's accommodation industry shows signs of strong growth, with a 26% increase in total income over the three years to 2000-01. Businesses in the industry generated $8,286 million (m) total income in 2000-01, according to figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). However industry operating profits increased marginally by 0.2% to 8.1% in 2000-01. The accommodation industry's pre-tax profit was $620 m. Accommodation provision was the main source of income for the industry ($5,001 m or 60%), with meal and liquor sales accounted for a further 24% of total income.
