INTERNET COMMERCE
I-Commerce Income All businesses that reported receiving orders via the internet were asked to indicate what proportion of their income from the sales of goods or services could be attributed to those orders (i.e. internet income). During the year ended 30 June 2014, a third of all businesses received orders via the internet (33%). The estimated value of internet income resulting from those orders was $267 billion. Businesses with 200 or more persons employed reported more than half of the total estimate of internet income, at $146 billion, compared with businesses with 0-4 persons employed that reported 8% of the total estimate of internet income ($22 billion). Further statistics relating to i-commerce can be accessed via the Downloads tab. Business Systems Supporting the Receipt of Orders Businesses that received orders via the internet were asked to specify the types of automated links between the systems used to receive orders and other business systems, during the year ended 30 June 2014. Businesses could provide more than one response. Of those businesses that received internet orders almost two thirds indicated that their systems used to receive orders did not have automated links to any other business systems (63%). For those businesses receiving orders and reporting automated links, the automated links most commonly reported were business systems for invoicing and payment (22%), followed by suppliers' business systems (11%).
By employment size, businesses with 200 or more persons employed were the most likely to have automated links across each of the response options. For example, 30% of businesses with 200 or more persons employed had automated links for invoicing and payment, compared with 20% of businesses with 0-4 persons employed. Businesses in Accommodation and food services were the most likely to use automated links, with half of the businesses in this industry reporting that they had any automatic system links (50%). Financial and insurance services recorded the highest proportion of businesses with automated links to suppliers' business systems (23%) and production or service operation (23%). Transport, postal and warehousing and Rental, hiring and real estate services recorded the highest proportion of businesses with automated links to customers' business systems (both 21%). Further statistics relating to business systems supporting the receipt of orders can be accessed via the Downloads tab. Document Selection These documents will be presented in a new window.
