High Performance Sales of New Motor Vehicles: ABS The trend estimate for total sales of new motor vehicles rose for the ninth consecutive month to 77,678 in July 2003. This is 11.7% higher than the July 2002 estimate of 69,544. The trend increase in total new motor vehicle sales was 295 or 0.4% in July 2003 compared with June 2003. New passenger vehicle sales and new other vehicle sales contributed 0.1% and 0.3% respectively to this increase. Increases in total new motor vehicle sales were recorded in Western Australia, Tasmania, Queensland and Victoria while decreases were recorded in the other states and territories. Western Australia (1.5%), Tasmania (1.5%) and Queensland (0.9%) recorded trend growth above the national average. Seasonally adjusted estimates of total new motor vehicle sales rose to 78,316 in July 2003 compared with 77,330 in June 2003, an increase of 1.3%.
