NSW has the highest number of sheep and lambs of any state. At 30 June 2002, the number of sheep and lambs in New South Wales was 38.5 million.

At 30 June 2002, most sheep and lambs in NSW were found in the South Eastern Statistical Division (7.1 million) and the Central West Statistical Division, also with 7.1 million.
