Adelaide and the Port prominent for larger employing businesses

For South Australia, Adelaide and Port Adelaide Enfield, had the most businesses with five or more employees, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

This is just some of the regional data that can now be found through the new ABS data navigator, making it easy for local communities to view a wide range of different data for their area.

"The new Data by Region navigator provides an efficient and interactive way of accessing data", said Lisa Conolly from the ABS.

Data is available for hundreds of items including, population, births, average income levels, building approvals, number of aged pensioners, business counts, number of motor vehicles, land use, and much more.

For example, did you know that compared with the rest of South Australia:
  • Adelaide and Port Adelaide Enfield had the most businesses employing five or more people, at 2,141 and 1,401 respectively
  • Tax return lodgers in Walkerville recorded the highest average investment income ($28,379 per year) followed by those living in Adelaide ($23,293)
  • Residents of Victor Harbour were the oldest (median age of 56.4 years) while those of Anangu Pitjantjatjara were the youngest (median age of 26.7 years)
  • The highest fertility rates were recorded in Cleve (4.1 births per 1,000 population), Karoonda East Murray (3.7) and Wudinna (3.6)
  • The highest number of Disability Support Pension recipients lived in Onkaparinga (7,821), Port Adelaide Enfield (7,658) and Salisbury (7,289)


Regional information is available over a five year period up to 2012, so local communities can track changes over time in the characteristics of their areas.
