NSW accounts for almost all of the Australian rice crop. Rice production is undertaken in three areas: the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area, the Coleambally Irrigation Area and the Murray Valley Irrigation Area. These three areas are in the Murrumbidgee and Murray Statistical Divisions.

In 2002-03, production was considerably reduced due to drought conditions (435,000 tonnes).

In 2002-03, 79% of all rice produced in NSW came from the Murrumbidgee Statistical Division (343,000 tonnes). This was followed by the Murray Statistical Division with 91,700 tonnes.
