WAGE PRICE INDEXES

Australia/Sector (original)

In the June quarter 2019 the Private and Public sector indexes rose 0.4% and 0.6% respectively. The All sectors quarterly rise was 0.5%.

The All sectors through the year rise was 2.4%. Through the year the Private and Public sectors grew 2.3% and 2.7% respectively.


State/Territory (original)

In the June quarter 2019, Victoria recorded the highest quarterly rise of 0.7%. South Australia, Tasmania and Northern Territory recorded the lowest quarterly rise of 0.2%.

Rises through the year ranged from 2.9% for Victoria to 1.6% for Western Australia.

In the Public sector, Victoria recorded the highest quarterly rise of all the states and territories (1.5%). Tasmania recorded the lowest rise of 0.1%.

Victoria recorded the highest Public sector rise of 3.7% through the year, while Tasmania recorded the lowest (0.9%).


Industry (original)




Wage growth in the Health care and social assistance industry was the main contributor to the June quarter 2019 Australian level index increase.

Industry wage growth was highest in the Electricity, gas, water and waste services and Health care and social assistance industries in June quarter 2019 at 0.7%.

In the Private sector, Information media and telecommunications, Public administration and safety, Arts and recreation services and Other service industries recorded the lowest growth over the quarter (0.1%). The Construction industry recorded the highest quarterly rise of 0.7%.

Rises through the year in the Private sector ranged from 1.7% for Wholesale trade, to 3.2% for Health care and social assistance.

In the Public sector Professional, scientific and technical services recorded the lowest quarterly wages growth of 0.1% while Health care and social assistance recorded the highest at 1.1%.

Rises through the year in the Public sector ranged from 1.9% for the Professional, scientific and technical services industry to 3.2% for Health care and social assistance.
