Wheat is grown predominantly west of the Great Dividing Range, extending along the centre of NSW from the Northern Statistical Division down to the Murray Statistical Division.

In 2001-02, a slight increase in yield resulted in a 2% rise in production, to 8.0 million tonnes.

In 2001-02, 23% of all wheat produced in NSW came from the Northern Statistical Division (1.9 million tonnes). This was followed by the Central West Statistical Division with 1.7 million tonnes.
