TREND
- The trend estimate of the total value of building work commenced fell 5.1% in the September quarter 2008.
- The value of new residential building commenced fell 5.1%. New house commencements fell 5.3% and new other residential commencements fell 4.3%. The value of commencements for alterations and additions to residential buildings fell 3.1%. The value of non-residential building fell by 5.0%.
Value of Work Commenced in Volume Terms, Trend
SEASONALLY ADJUSTED
- In seasonally adjusted terms, the estimate of the total value of building work commenced in the September quarter fell 14.2% following a rise of 1.2% in June.
- Commencements of new residential buildings fell 13.0%, to $8,340.3m. New house commencements fell 11.6%, to $5,706.2m, while new other residential building fell 15.8%, to $2,634.1m. Alterations and additions fell 0.3%, to $1,525.7m. Non-residential work commenced fell 18.1%, to $7,138.9m.
