ANALYSIS - TOTAL RETAIL TOTAL RETAIL - QUARTERLY In volume terms, the seasonally adjusted estimate for the December quarter 2011 rose 0.4% following a rise of 0.5% in the September quarter 2011 and a rise of 0.1% in the June quarter 2011. In the December quarter 2011, the seasonally adjusted estimate rose in volume terms for Household goods retailing (1.9%), Food retailing (0.8%) and Clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (1.8%). The seasonally adjusted estimate fell in volume terms for Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (-1.3%), Other retailing (-1.0%) and Department Stores (-0.8%) in the December quarter 2011. The Implicit Price Deflator for Australian turnover rose 0.1% in seasonally adjusted terms in the December quarter 2011. TOTAL RETAIL - BY STATE The following states and territories rose in trend terms in December 2011: New South Wales (0.2%), Western Australia (0.5%), Victoria (0.1%) and South Australia (0.3%). The Australian Capital Territory (0.0%) was relatively unchanged. Queensland (-0.1%), Tasmania (-0.1%) and the Northern Territory (-0.1%) fell in trend terms in December 2011. The following states and territories fell in seasonally adjusted terms in December 2011: Queensland (-1.4%), Western Australia (-0.7%), New South Wales (-0.2%), South Australia (-0.7%), the Northern Territory (-2.6%) and Tasmania (-0.1%). Victoria (1.5%) and the Australian Capital Territory (1.8%) rose in seasonally adjusted terms in December 2011. In the December quarter 2011, the seasonally adjusted estimate rose in volume terms for Western Australia (1.8%), New South Wales (0.5%), South Australia (0.7%) and the Northern Territory (0.3%). Victoria (0.0%) and Queensland (0.0%) were relatively unchanged. The seasonally adjusted estimate fell in volume terms for Tasmania (-0.7%) and the Australian Capital Territory (-0.8%).
