MEDIA RELEASE
New ABS Directory of Mining Statistics A new comprehensive reference publication showing where to find information on Australia's mining industry, the Directory of Mining Statistics, was released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The directory is a reference to more than 80 Australian sources of statistical information covering different aspects of mining ranging from education and training, employment and exploration to financial performance and production. Mining organisations, industry associations, policy makers and researchers are expected to find this directory particularly useful. The directory provides a description of known mining statistical collections in both the government and private sectors. Information on each collection includes data produced, geographic coverage, frequency of data availability, details of publications and other products, and the availability of historical data, as well as contact details. For some collections a sample of the type of information available is given. Indexes are provided for quick reference to sources and subjects. The mining industry contributes approximately 5% annually to Australia's Gross Domestic Product and has significant impact on the economy. The Directory of Mining Statistics (cat. no. 8416.0) is available from ABS Bookshops. The Directory is also available on this site. The Internet version of the Directory provides links to the websites of organisations which provide mining statistics. Document Selection These documents will be presented in a new window.
