ROLE OF MINING STATISTICS Mining statistics produced by the ABS fulfil a dual role: they feed into national accounts statistics and thus contribute to the overall assessment of Australia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Gross Value Added (GVA); and they are published for the benefit of external users including the mining industry and researchers. The ABS takes very seriously, the need for reliable, accurate and useful data. The ABS also strives to coordinate the various areas that contribute to mining statistics. These areas of the ABS include, but are not limited to, National Accounts, Balance of Payments, and Labour Force.
