NAME OF COLLECTION

Queensland Household Survey (QHS)

OVERVIEW

The Queensland Household Survey (QHS) is a statistical survey of Queensland householders conducted by the Office of Economic and Statistical Research (OESR), Queensland Treasury. The QHS commenced in November 2000 and is conducted every May and November.

The QHS collects data on a range of topics such as the role of government in education, the environment, Internet usage, energy efficiency, training and employment and more.

Data are used to inform policy development, performance measurement and service delivery for many Queensland Government agencies.

The QHS provides Queensland agencies with a cost effective opportunity to obtain information on a single survey or over time.

SCOPE

The QHS uses sampling techniques to collect statistics which are representative of the Queensland population. The sample includes over 6,500 householders throughout the state, including the Greater Brisbane area and nine non-metropolitan regions. Interviews are conducted with randomly selected usual household residents, aged 18 years or over.

DATA DETAIL

  • Country of birth
  • Language spoken at home

Surveys from May 2001 and May 2004 also included specific questions on diversity and attitudes towards cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

A range of other data items are collected under the broader topics listed above.

GEOGRAPHIC DETAIL

The results from this survey will be available at both state and regional (Statistical Division) levels.

AVAILABILITY OF DATA AND PUBLICATIONS

Data collected from individuals who participate in the Queensland Household Survey are confidential and are collected under the Queensland Government Statistical Returns Act.
